I was perusing the shelves at the library looking for something to read and I picked this book up at random. The two men meet during the massacres and discuss the on going problems. The "wogs" as they are called so often are there to do as they are told or take their punishment - be it a kick in the pants or tortured to death. He races to the spring to prevent any conflict, but when Kimani and the remaining Mau Mau arrive, Joe and his men shoot at the men, women and children. Few books have affected me in such a way that I think about the characters and situations as if I was a part of it. According to MGM records, the movie earned $2.1 million in the US and $1.5 million overseas, for a net loss of $410,000. What it actually is, is a historical fiction account of it. The book makes it clear both sides are to blame.
